Canadian Style Strip Planked Canoe

Here is an extremely well crafted in strip plank red cedar timbers, epoxy joined with a fibreglass cloth overlaid using West System epoxy resin. 

She has brass stipping along the keel, gunwales are hoop pine to contrast the cedar and is fitted with two hand made cane seats.  Two paddles are included. 

This canoe is easily transported on a car roof, weighing only 23kg, and whilst the she is best suited for rivers and lakes, her rigidity makes it suitable for safe use in more choppy conditions.

Norwalk Island Sharpie 26
'Malisma'

26' x 6'4" x 20" - 6' with centrebaord

Malisma was built in 1993 and is set up for single-handled sailing with a cat ketch rig, consisting of a main mast forward, approx. 36’ high & a Mizzen approx 19’ high.

The carbon fibre masts are, tapered, unstayed & mounted in a tabernacle, allowing quick & easy raising & lowering. There are no Spinnakers or Headsails to worry about! Then mainsail measures 226sq ft & 85sq ft for the mizzen.

Controls for the mainsail all lead back to the cockpit, with 3 reefing lines, outhaul, halyard & lazy jacks, which catch the sail when it is lowered. The main halyard runs around a winch, so the sail can be hoisted. The winch is also used to raise & lower the main mast.

She has 820kg of lead ballast fastened to the bottom with is another 60kg of lead attached to the centreboard. All up she weighs 2 tons.

The centreboard is housed in a case with an electric winch to raise & lower it. There is also a manual back-up winch.

Malisma is powered by a 9.8hp Tohatsu Outboard, mounted in a motor well, with electric start run from 2 x 12 volt deep cycle batteries.

She sleeps up to 4, with a Vee berth forward & 2 quarter berths on each side. Inside comprises of a sink with running water, a metho stove, settee berths, 2 tables & storage shelves on both sides and on the bulkhead. 2 Hatches on each side can accommodate anchors, fenders, spare rope, fuel etc. It also has a Porta Potti under the vee berth forward, with a roller blind for privacy.

These boat are so easy to sail they almost sail themselves.

Glen-L Cartopper

The owner built this boat, one of many that he has constructed over the years. It is a design from the Glen L company in the USA. It is designed for the owner who likes messing about in boats on relatively smooth waters. Rivers, estuaries and such like.

The hull is 4 mm marine ply and the bottom is overlayed with glass cloth bedded in West System epoxy resin. All up weight is approximately 65kg.

TechniglueCA Epoxy adhesive (made by the same company that makes West System in Australia) is used throughout. Gunwales are of Hoop Pine and the double chines from meranti. The exterior was treated with the 3 stage International Marine Paint system, the interior first with West System then with UV stabilised Marine varnish.

A 3 hp outboard is all that is necessary to get the boat on the plane. Two adults and a child with picnic gear is probably an adequate load.

As the boat is brand new it has not been registered.
The boat is supplied with anchor and line and oars.

The outboard illustrated in the pictures is not for sale.
The trailer is negotiable or the owner can build a cradle to suit a 6 x 4 trailer for transportation.
