60s Speed Boat - "Shine On"
Shine on was built by Jan Boonen in the early 60`s. It was built for
the Garden Island Water Ski club for their ski marathons between Mannum and
Murray Bridge.(hence the rego no`s) GI.
It originally had a 179 Holden motor in it until the present motor was built by Chrysler when they were at Keswick. It won many events up to the seventies until the larger outboards started to catch up. The first owner was Brian Graves. He named the boat Shine On after his father who use to race at Rowley Park and was nick named Shine Graves. The boat was bought by the present owners about 32 years ago from Brian and have used it since to ski behind.
The motor is a 313 Dodge/Chrysler and is direct driven. The boat was completely stripped about 4 years ago and the rivets done. Top speed was about 50 mph. I also have 2 engine blocks and about 6 heads plus cranks, pistons, inlet manifolds plus various water cooled manifolds.
The upholstery was also done recently.
